I discovered something really awesome this week while at physical therapy and thought that I would share.
First, let me backtrack and explain why I am going to physical therapy. I have been dealing with chronic neck and back pain for over two years now. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but my pain had become so horrible and unbearable a few months ago, and I said something to my rheumatologist. Luckily, I have a doctor who is thorough and listens, so he sent me for an MRI of my cervical and lumbar spine, despite having x-rays come back normal. I received my results about a week later explaining that I had/have disc herniations and bulging discs. It was in very detailed medical dialogue, but that was the overall point. I was immediately told to go to an orthopedic doctor, who then referred me to physical therapy.
While my cause of my disc issues are not particularly known, I have been given physical therapy exercises meant to stretch my spine and make my core and back stronger to support my spine. I have been going for months now, and while I cannot say that it is helping me noticeably, it feels good to at least receive the electronic stim on my back with heat at the beginning of my appointment and ice at the end.
Fast forward to this week. I have been in really bad pain and my physical therapist could see this so was trying to figure out if there was anything else in the building that I could use that I wasn’t already using, and she came across the Theracane. I wish that I had known about this for weeks.
If you are unfamiliar with it like I was, they have it on Amazon along with a bunch of similar ones by different brands. It is essentially this cane shaped device that was made for you to be able to reach your pressure points that are very painful. My therapist told me that I could maneuver it however I needed to reach my tender spots and to hold it there for 30 seconds in each spot.
Where was this device for the past couple of months that I was seeing her? It would have been amazing to use it each time I went. It reaches everywhere from your neck all the way down to your lower back. It’s perfect because you can do it by yourself and not have to rely on anyone else helping you out.
I can’t describe exactly what it felt like, but it was similar to when a massage therapist knows you have fibro and presses their fingers into your tender pressure points for a few seconds.
I am definitely planning on getting one of these for myself to use at home. I am not getting paid to endorse this product or anything like that. I am a nobody who just wants to recommend a product to fellow sufferers because it was so great.
Ahhh….thinking about it now while I lay in throbbing, aching pain and wishing I had ordered one. ☹️
